i am a little late to post this to my own blog. this debuted last week on the always spectacular DIS Magazine , and i wanted people to download it from there. it spread around on lots of blogs and was downloaded and hopefully appreciated by a lot of people. Pitchfork today called it "far from tasteful" and a "complete mess" !! ( i fucking love that) This remix collection is the 7th dimensional rip, which is an ongoing conceptual art work of mine designed to effect and change the universe at large, in a sense, literally ripping open a dimension of space and time. These remixes did just that, virally spreading through the internet and then on to people's iPODs and into their everyday world. it has been a huge success. a big thank you to everyone who has listened and been a part of this specific dimensional rip. and here are all the songs for download on my soundcloud. <3<3<3<3<3

WHAT A YEAR....
in no particular order here are my top ten favorite cultural moments in this, the year of our (over)lord, 2011.

10. REBECCA BLACK "FRIDAY"

we all remember where we were when we saw it first, the hilariously dumb lyrics, the awkward singing, the cheesy effects, the non sensical and pointless rap verse, this was THE video of the year. it was also the publics introduction into the weird weird world of arc music factory. the un-ironic or self aware tween music company that was a never ending rabbit whole of WTF's. but it was "friday" that stole the show, and with good reason, it was such an abomination on all fronts that it was somehow really endearing, and will go down in history as a classic of internet meme culture. here is to rebecca black and the arc music factory, for making the world laugh, and drop their collective jaws in 2011. <3

9. RYAN TRECARTIN "ANY EVER" AT MOMA PS1, NEW YORK

i have written about my love and appreciation for ryan's work here numerous times. a futurist, he is truly becoming the voice of a disembodied generation. a generation that occupies a multidimensional digital landscape that is truly scitzophrenic, psychedelic, and hyperreal. Ryan Trecartin's work is a reflection of our post-post modern age in a way that feels very important and highly relevant in a way that most artists work is not. "Any Ever" was his big museum show this year, (rare for any artist his age), and i flew out to New York just to see it. i was able to meet him, and even ended up in a strip club with him later that night. (right after i was almost arrested with my friends ryder ripps, and cody critcheloe from SSION, but thats another story). So, back to the art, consisting of 7 different videos in different rooms that were fully immersive environments, the show was fantastic and hugely inspiring. it is hard to think of any other artist really speaking as poetically about my generation like Trecartin. a true genius. i look forward to following his work for years to come.

8. ARAAB MUZIK LIVE AT GHE20 GOTHIK

some photos i took that dont do the reality of the situation justice. shoutout venus x and azizaman

Araab musik had quite the year, mainly by blowing a lot of peoples minds with the great "electronic dream". but i was lucky enough to catch a live set by the producer in a small basement rave in Bushwick, brooklyn. The party was one of the notorious and famed raves put on by the often imitated, but never duplicated GHE20 GOTHIK crew, and that night, araab muzik was a secret guest. seeing talent like araab muzik in a DIY punk style setting like that was nothing short of legendary, and his set melted the room. he just stands at his MPC, and beats at it like some sort of cyborg, seemingly un-human. it was a real game changing moment, for all of music. i feel like no one could believe what they were seeing, or hearing. that night araab muzik tore a hole in the fabric of reality, no joke.

7. TEOTIHUACAN

in april of this year, i was fortunate enough to travel down to mexico city to do a performance with the dark lord RITUALZ. the whole trip was incredible and i was also able to go to monterrey and DJ tribal musica to local kids there alongside one of my favorite producers, 17 year old 3ball phenomenon, erick rincon. it was something i will never forget. but the most amazing and life altering experience came from visiting the ruins of the grand city of TEOTIHUACAN. full disclosure, the experience of the ruins was enhanced through some high grade mexican LSD, but it wasnt the acid that made it special. being in such a sacred ancient place that is architecturally sound with the earth, its environment, and the cosmos is nothing short of mind altering. no modern buildings have this effect. it was very powerful, and i couldnt help but wonder of course, just WHAT was the true purpose of these massive pyramids? maybe one day humanity will remember our true past. oh, and we also shot a music video while at the pyramids.

6. PRURIENT "BERMUDA DRAIN"

my album of the year. i feel i have already written in depth a few times about this record, but it is just flawless and epically beautiful. a dark masterpiece of sound design and brutal emotion by the mighty noise god, PRURIENT. noise purists were confused and angered by this release, what with the synths, and the drum machines! heaven forbid. respect.

5. SNACK THE PLANET

in july, an art event like no other i have been a part of occurred in downtown Manhattan. inside the Museum of Art and Design was a room with a fully equipped flavored oxygen bar, energy drink shrimp cocktails and cyber snacks, the most fashionable of the contemporary New York underground, and a black-lit white carpeted chill out space with blue plastic blow up furniture. this was SNACK THE PLANET, an experimental party thrown by curators of the next age, Patrik sandberg, and Lauren Devine, both affiliates of the always amazing DIS magazine. The idea was to somewhat re create the classic cyber-arcade hangout from the seminal 1995 movie, Hackers, but what ended up being created was a genuine Temporary Autonomous Zone. lighting and "set design" was left up to genius design crew THUNDERHORSE VIDEO who hand made the entire cyber bar from scratch. Performances included the incredible queer-art rap poetry of Mykki Blanco with Physical Therapy as her DJ, supreme vibe controllers Teengirl Fantasy, and myself with full choreography by my two incredible dancers, Raw Acid. The event itself was just unbelievable. the energy was explosive because everyone was high on oxygen, life, and energy drinks. during my performance, people were literally humping on the ground, blowing up condoms, molesting my dancers, and generally just freaking out. I honestly dont think a crowd has been that fanatical in uptight Manhattan since the early 80's. it was a sight to behold, and that night, Snack the Planet was a cultural revolution. view incredible photos by Rez Avizzar of the whole night, here.

4. JAMES FERRARO "FAR SIDE VIRTUAL"

The conceptual art statement of the year. "Far Side Virtual" was a revelation. From the genius merry prankster that is James Ferraro, the album was a psychedelic journey through our consumerist culture. As a statement regarding what it is like to be a human being living in a manufactured reality, where everything is designed to be simplified and consumed by a mass audience, this album hits that on the head better than any essay of cultural theory could. sounding like hitting the "demo" key on an old keyboard while shopping in a supermarket while riding an elevator in starbucks all captured on a thrift store VHS cassette, nothing sounded like this this year. Yes, it is that fucked up. i dont know how he did this. it is simply brilliant.

3. MATTHEW STONE "OPTIMISM AS CULTURAL REBELLION" THE HOLE GALLERY

Matthew Stone is a british artist whom i have been a big fan of for some time. a few years ago in denver, i was hosting an art salon in a speakeasy bar once a month, where a small group of artists and thinkers would get together to discuss a topic. On one occasion, we chose to discuss the radical notion of optimism and its revolutionary power to change. i presented some of Matthew Stone's essays on the idea of how optimism is extremely important and as a tactic in radicalism and the progression of culture and spirit. So it was fantastic to be able to attend the opening for his American debut show dealing with that concept. There was a deep transcendent spirituality to the work in the show, which is one of Matthew's gifts and strong points. Matthew's photographic and sculptural work is extremely poetic and romantic and references classical painting, yet is overtly queer and contemporary. i feel a spiritual connection to Matthew as he fancies himself a bit of a shaman and shares a lot of the same conceptual outlooks on life and humanity that i do. his work shows the power in geometry and in the human form, the soul inside of the body. it was just sublime.

2. AMERICAN INDIE RAP GETTING IT'S GROOVE BACK

As an old school indie-rap head (um remember anticon?) it was cool to see that 2011 was the year american underground rap broke out with a vengeance unseen since the days of Company Flow in the late 90's. with the music industry in steady decline, mainstream artists were left scratching their heads, as their lyrics of money, cars, and clothes were becoming increasingly irrelevant. it seems like indie rap was everywhere this year, with the internet explosions of Odd Future (yonkers, anyone?) and Kreayshawn, like it or not, teenagers on DIY budgets were making a loud splash. this year we saw the breakout of some new stars climbing to the top from the underground. Artists like Danny Brown and ASAP Rocky both had incredible, and dare i say historical albums, and shit DAS RACIST were on the fucking cover of SPIN magazine. rappers like YOUNG L and SPACEGHOSTPURP were putting out really dope mixtapes. and i saw the magician god himself, LIL B, give one of the weirdest and most avant guard performances i have ever seen with full on new age spoken word sermon during the supermoon at the fader fort during SXSW to over 2000 people. that was some incredible fucking shit. ART RAP IS BACK!

1. THE #OCCUPY MOVEMENT AND THE GLOBAL UPRISING

the "pepper spray cop" spraying peaceful protesters at UC Davis.

Watching 4am live stream on the internet from some dude's cellphone of hundreds of riot police violently destroying and dismantling the #occupywallstreet protest center in Zucotti Park because of a media blackout was disgusting, enraging, and an event that shook the world. talk as much shit as you want on the occupiers, but this year they succeeded in snapping people out of their dark trance illusion that everything is fine and well in the world. it was the news story of the year, that was barely covered or taken seriously by the government owned mainstream media. as they say, you cant arrest an idea, expect only more global conflict and revolution in 2012. Tear the shit down.

not unlike my video for "negative slave", that was shot all while traveling through mexico, "black nails" is taken from video all shot while i was traveling around russia, specifically the cities of kazan, moscow, and st petersburg. the majority of the video was all shot at a chemical and plastic factory in a heavy industrial on the outskirts of Kazan. everything is orange because of enormous smokestacks shooting out massive fireballs that would illuminate the entire forrest, and the air smelled of poison. it was really quite a scary and apocalyptic place and i have never seen anything quite like it. everything is so very different in russia than america, and i really wanted to capture the amazing spirit of russian culture and to portray the classic "russian soul", that my russian friends say is becoming lost from russia. the smaller videos mixed with the animation were all shot on my pocket digital camera, and include scenes from inside of cathedrals, leonardo di vinci paintings, and crowd footage from a shows from famous russian thrash band, Master and by the popular russian pop/punk/rap group, narkotiki, which just means "drugs" in english. all of the animations were done by a local denver artist, and one of the founding members of rhinoceropolis, milton melvin croissant III.

the old kremlin (midevil town center) and brand new mosque in, kazan, russia.

such a wonderful evening surrounded by wonderful people, i had no idea that this video was being made.
the footage was taken from a small party in the outskirts of KAZAN, RUSSIA in a traditional russian style house. i had performed at a club the night earlier and this was sort of an afterparty, but the next day. everyone wanted me to DJ very badly so i set up my computer on top of a small but loud stereo while everyone danced. it starts off outside in a courtyard but we had to move inside because while i was DJing huge storm clouds rolled in and it started pouring rain. the kids there said that i was a shaman and i brought the rain. it was an amazing moment.

there was mitsubishi ecstasy floating around, and everyone was feeling good sharing their culture with me. the guy timothy, who's birthday party it was said me DJing there was the most incredible gift anyone could ever give him. i felt blessed to be there.

sampled mostly from Imogen Heap vocals, the production work here is incredible. with "Im god" star, CLAMS CASINO and Young L himself handling the beats, you know to expect greatness, but this mixtape really hits this sort of meloncholic "dream swag" sound on the head. (my term i just came up with ha)

this could be the hip-hop record of the year. this is beautiful music. no doubt thanks to imogen heap of course, but Young L is really shining here.

a huge move forward for Young L, but i do hope that he returns to his cold electronic snap sound of his previous mixtapes. #swag

NEGATIVE SLAVE. THE OFFICIAL VIDEO

the concept of the 'negative slave" is one that i have been working with since my last album "dark rift" as can be evidenced here, in the opening sequence for the "situationist performance" for my video for cyclical cyclical. i love language and word play, and pairing words together to create strong mental images and to play with reality. the phrase "negative slave" seems incredibly powerful to me. each are power words that carry their own weight. the phrase can go both ways... meaning an actual slave that is negative, a person under full control of the mind and body, OR it can be taken as the opposite, the "negative" of the slave. meaning someone who is free from control.
this is what i mean when i say "negative slave". a person released from any form of control, (social, physical, mental, biological, etc) one who is in touch with their true individual selves.

it being one of my favorite songs from my record, i knew i wanted to make a music video for the song. i had the amazing chance to visit and perform and hang out in mexico city in april, and i documented a lot of my trip there using a small digital camera.
i have a very large interest in ancient cultures, their civilizations, and global consciousness in the ancient world. i was very exited to visit one of the largest cities of the pre-columbian americas, TEOTIHUACAN. and i knew i wanted to shoot some of the video on top of the pyramids.

the shots of me lip singing on the pyramids were shot while i was under the influence of LSD.the experience of being enhanced by the psychedelic compound while being in such a sacred place was nothing short of magical.

that being said, the video is supposed to be very fun and not extremely conceptual. i wanted to create a "lifestyle video" sort of like a rap video, that just is a window into my daily life. as if my daily life consists of being on acid on top of 2000 year old pyramids, yes.

other shots in the video are from different situations and happenings in denver, like real is a feeling, art performances, shows at rhinoceropolis, and even video shoots at red rocks for fellow denver electronic artist , real magic. UFO hotspot nederland, colorado makes a cameo in the video as well as a starchild and a stone.

When I was 20 years old in New York City, do you think you walked into a coffee shop and saw 40 people staring at $2,000 purchases all made from the same company? And those are all the artists! I talk to young musicians now, and they're just happy to be making records that get released. They don't even consider that, in the old days, they could making a living by selling records. They don't even get paid for their work. All that money just goes to Apple and they're happy to just have people going to their shows. It just took two generations for Apple and similar companies to convince artists they don't deserve to get paid and that they should just be grateful for the tools that Apple is providing us to make our work, as if we need them to make our art. a lot of people may not remember this song, but nina sky were sort of a one hit wonder on mainstream radio a few years ago, i think they were poised for big things and i am not really sure what happened... maybe the north american mainstream audience wasnt ready for reggaeton pop music sung by cute sisters just quite yet. i always LOVED this song, and listening to it now reminds me of how good it actually is... seriously this is incredible. you can see the genuine excitement on nina sky's faces from them showcasing their talents to an entirely new audience.

this video sort of represents a lot of things for me, first off, the current state of the music industry and the blurring of what was once thought of as "mainstream" or "underground". there are no rules anymore and the walls are being brought down.... everything is on the same level field now.

we are living through a pretty remarkable moment in pop history and i am curious to see where this goes.

2010 was an incredible year. we all saw a lot of shit go down, and i think it was a year where a lot of transformation took place. a year where humanity and culture collectively stepped up its game and said, "we are taking this game into the future" there is no looking back... there is only the now. and the now right now is something special.

this is a list of people, places and things that really grabbed me this year. in no way is it fully comprehensive of all the amazing shit that i experienced this year, but lets just call it a best of the best.

1. DIS MAGAZINE

any one person who reads this blog or checks my facebook or TWITTER, knows how much i fanboy over the more than genius, DIS MAGAZINE. it as been amazing to witness how far these talented kids have come this year and how influential the site is becoming. i remember talking with my friend patrik, (who happens to run the legendary cobain in a coma) about a "new project" he was working on, which ended up being DIS. at the time i really had no idea how visionary the idea was. no one "gets it" quite like dis magazine. its even hard to explain. it is at times sarcastic and satirical, but never is there any irony. DIS is for real. and they have a grasp on what it means to live in a post- post modern culture better than really any culture publishing entity of the moment. DIS is inventing an entire aesthetic, and it is fascinating to watch. to another year DIS!! much love. lets collaborate.

ok. lets state the obvious to any follower of forward thinking club music. NIGHT SLUGS IS KILLING THE GAME RIGHT NOW. seriously, has any one record label had as many consistently stellar releases or been as influential as these guys in 2010? they just started this year!! every thing they put out is gold. anthem after anthem. i dont even have much to say because the music speaks for itself. in a time (denver i am looking at you) where dubstep's monotonous and regressive tendrils have their wompy hooks in every club and dance party, nights slug's fusion of post dubstep, uk funky, grime, american R&B, and HOUSE is more than a breath of fresh air. no one sounds like this shit right now, but in 2011 i can bet everyone will be trying. mental, just fucking mental.

3. UFO'S IN THE MEDIA

Something was going on in the skies big time in 2010.

UFO'S had a really big year. there were more sightings and strange things going on in the skies this year than any other in recorded history. remember the norway spiral? or maybe the PYRAMID THAT FLOATED OVER MOSCOW?. or maybe you recollect the 8 DIFFERENT TIMES THE AIRPORT WAS SHUT DOWN IN CHINA BY UFO'S?! or maybe the october 13th SIGHTING IN MANHATTAN where a ufo hung out for a few hours above the city after military information was released months before hand saying there would be a ufo sighting in a major city of the world on that exact day? or were you paying attention when MILITARY OFFICIALS HELD PRESS CONFERENCES ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCES WITH UFO'S?

these are but a few of the sensational events that occurred in our skies and in our media this year. something is obviously going on, and i feel to turn a blind eye or pretend like none of this is real isnt an option any more. this shit is right in our faces. and it is exciting. 2011 could really be a year where we see a paradigm shifting disclosure from the US government take place. i am waiting for it.

4. DJ NATE "DA TRAK GENIOUS"

more than any other full length album this year, DJ Nate's "da trak genious" really took my breath away. for all of the sonic influences that dj nate takes from to to produce (juke, ghetto tech, footwork, chicago house) "da trak genious" sounded literally unprecedented. this is NEW music. as in nothing else sounds like this in the world. 2010 was the year the CHICAGO FOOTWORK SCENE captivated the minds of forward thinking music lovers all over the world with other amazing releases and work put out by producers like DJ ROC, DJ RASHAD, and DJ SPINN among many others. still, Nates "da trak genious" is something special and will go down as one of my favorite records of all time. as nate says, "hataz our motivation" inspiring words for anyone wanting to push boundaries in art. keep it up nate.

5. REAL IS A FEELING

"REAL IS A FEELING" is a party that i started in denver this year. the party was created to fill what i saw as a void in denver. a void where no really good open minded, freeform, artistic and progressive dance music night was taking place. full disclosure, real is a feeling was directly inspired by the incredible GHE20 GOTHIK party in new york city. (wuts up gothik!) Throughout the year, real is a feeling has become somewhat of a total cultural event, (even though i missed the last few because i am so busy!) and something for people to look forward to. and there is still nothing like it in denver. along with my real is a feeling comrads who have been there from the beginning, HOLLAGRAMZ, and §CREEN§AVER§, we arent stopping bringing denver its best party. shout outs to peter black and cory brown and all the guest dj's we have had at real is a feeling along with everyone who has come out! its all love and progress!! the infinite rave.

6. MOSCOW, RUSSIA.

in may of 2010 i was flown out to moscow, russia to perform, and it was a life changing trip that will stick with me my whole life. the picture above is of myself and a charming local vampire, casually avoiding the direct sunlight in a day at a park. my time spent in moscow was an incredible cultural experience, both for myself and the people who brought me there. most of the people had never met many americans, and i dont know anyone who had ever been to moscow before i went there, so it was a unique learning experience for everyone involved. the trip there was somewhat of an experiment for the promoters, as i think i was the first performer they had ever booked for their new dance night darkly entitled "fatality", where i played with two amazing russian bands, THE STONED BOYS and LOVE FINE. i was told by them that rhinoceropolis and denver were an inspiration for them wanting to create a DIY community similar to the one we have in denver, because something on that level didnt exist in moscow. that really meant something to me and i was happy to bring that spirit to that city. i could really type about all of the crazy shit that went down, but that would honestly take to long, needless to say it was special.

7. SEWN LEATHER AT WHARTSCAPE

I wrote about the legend that is SEWN LEATHER in my "best of 2008"(i shot the video that is there if you follow the link) and two years later, dude is still killing it. one of my favorite performances i saw all year was his set this year at whartscape. whartscape is a DIY festival run by a bunch of amazing people in baltimore, MD every summer. this year was so sick. i saw incredible performances by NARWHALS OF SOUND, DJ DOG DICK, ARAB ON RADAR, FUTURE ISLANDS and motherfucking LIL B... this shit was just straight up retarded. during sewn leathers set i was dancing next to my girl salvia plath when she fell through the wooden railing that held us on the "balcony" of a stage. it ruled. sewn leather forever. anyone who was there knows how electric this shit was. wut's up mark brown?!

8. TRASH HUMPERS

i am a huge fan of harmony korine. so when i heard about "TRASH HUMPERS" i was really excited. i went with some friends to the theater here in denver and fell in love with this movie. all the reviews i read of it completely panned it, which i think made me like it even more. it was at all times surreal, disturbing, hilarious, and a great anarchistic commentary on our collapsing and decaying society. a perfectly fucked up film. high art in my opinion and really underrated as i feel it is one of his best works. check it out if you didnt see it.

9. RYAN TRECARTIN FOR W MAGAZINE

i will start off by saying when i discovered RYAN TRECARTIN's video work a few years ago it became a huge influence on my art, and even my daily life. they were (and are) the stuff of GENIUS, created by a mad artistic cyber scientist in a garden of (un?)earthly queer delights. since those days, ryan has gone on to become somewhat of an underground hero, an artists artist, and an all around art star. so when i heard that he had done a fashion spread in the mainstream style publication, W magazine, lets just say i was more than intrigued. the images above are from that issue, and in my opinion are the best fashion images from the year. the issue had pictures of kim kardashian's naked body painted silver, but it was obviously trecartin's visually arresting imagery that stole the show. the post-human's in the images are a part of and at one with their digitized environments, and i see them as visionary portraits of a future fusion of man and technology. something we are at the alpha stage of in our current world. just brilliant. love you ryan.

10. FULL MOON LUNAR ECLIPSE ON WINTER SOLSTICE.

I dont know how anyone could have witnessed the eclipse that everyone was talking about this winter and not have been awestruck. the energy that night was so vibrant and thick. i feel it was one of the most important events to humanity in a very long time. just the simple visual re-affirmation of seeing OUR shadow, the shadow of the earth, cross the moons surface seemed to click a switch, in even the most simplest of minds, of the simple yet profound reality that we are all here together on this thing. the eclipse was intensely positive, and had an incredible transformative power, that i took as a sign we are entering in to a new world very soon.
