anyone who reads this blog will know that i am a huge DAS RACIST fan. i just find them to be not only really cool people, but also a very inspired and intelligent punk group who are truly original and not afraid to be themselves.

this can be seen here on MAINSTREAM TELEVISION and will probably go down as one of the weirder performances to ever happen on network TV. simply put, how did this even happen? i really wonder what some people were thinking about while watching this in their living rooms in suburban america.

GLASS CANDY WARM IN THE WINTER

i had the chance to see glass candy 2wice this year. once in san diego, and the other was last week while in austin for FUN FUN FUN fest. each time they completely blew the minds of everyone in the room. it is just really warm, emotional music. i got a chance to hang out with them a bit while backstage in austin. i remember being pretty drunk when i was leaving and telling them that their music was helping to raise consciousness. i meant it.

not unlike my video for "negative slave", that was shot all while traveling through mexico, "black nails" is taken from video all shot while i was traveling around russia, specifically the cities of kazan, moscow, and st petersburg. the majority of the video was all shot at a chemical and plastic factory in a heavy industrial on the outskirts of Kazan. everything is orange because of enormous smokestacks shooting out massive fireballs that would illuminate the entire forrest, and the air smelled of poison. it was really quite a scary and apocalyptic place and i have never seen anything quite like it. everything is so very different in russia than america, and i really wanted to capture the amazing spirit of russian culture and to portray the classic "russian soul", that my russian friends say is becoming lost from russia. the smaller videos mixed with the animation were all shot on my pocket digital camera, and include scenes from inside of cathedrals, leonardo di vinci paintings, and crowd footage from a shows from famous russian thrash band, Master and by the popular russian pop/punk/rap group, narkotiki, which just means "drugs" in english. all of the animations were done by a local denver artist, and one of the founding members of rhinoceropolis, milton melvin croissant III.
